Overnight tourism Forecast in the Netherlands
The development of overnight tourism in the Netherlands presents significant opportunities for destination management and development. With Forecast 2035, NBTC, in collaboration with CELTH (and the Data & Development Lab, DDL), offers an updated forecast providing insights into domestic and inbound overnight tourism through 2035. For the first time, these insights are specified at the provincial level, making the publication a valuable resource for national, regional, and local policymaking.
Updating previous forecasts
In 2018, NBTC released a long-term forecast for overnight tourism in the Netherlands as part of Perspective 2030, predicting a 50% growth in inbound tourism by 2030. This insight contributed to the development and adjustment of tourism policies across the Netherlands. Five years later, following the major impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need for a renewed forecast. Forecast 2035 updates and expands on these earlier insights.
New insights on domestic and provincial tourism
This updated forecast builds on previous publications and introduces important new dimensions. For the first time, Forecast 2035 provides insights into both domestic and inbound overnight tourism. Additionally, it offers provincial-level forecasts, enabling policymakers to address regional variations alongside national trends. These insights support better alignment of policies with local challenges and opportunities.
